The downfall came when they traded penner
That deal made no sense unless if they brought someone in to replace him which the did not

Ducks have won only 2 out of 7 games since the trade

Lindholm has been having a great season. He now has an opportunity to really shine. I think we all know NM is the pre determined Calder winner because he's a forward and Canadian, but Palat and Lindholm have to be in that conversation.

I agree with the above poster that losing Pancakes Penner is having a bigger impact than expected. As a fantasy GM, I was not pleased when Vanek ended up in MON instead of next to Getzlaf and Perry.

I believe NM has the stats to win the Calder 23g 54pts
Has nothing to do with his nationality

Hertl would have been there as well if he didn't get hurt

Penner???? You mean 1 assist since the trade Penner? You mean being demoted to the 4th line (playing with 2 AHL call-ups) since the trade Penner? Yeah, the Ducks really miss his goal scoring and strong two-way play.

Strange about face from a comment you made to me in your last blog, but I agree with you 100%. Cam is the closest thing Anaheim has to a #1 shut down defenseman. I unfortunately agree with you too about his impact on the PP. It's going to make an already bad PP embarrassingly bad. It doesn't bode well for them staying ahead of San Jose for the division crown.
The Ducks record hasn't been that great recently, but they've played well against teams they'll likely meet in the playoffs. They've beat LA and St. Louis twice although they lost to Chicago twice.

I didn't think he'd be gone that long and everybody was crying about it. Plus, I looked more closely at his stats.

I get you. Honestly, if I hadn't heard what Bob Murray was doing to try to get Kesler &Vanek at the trade deadline I would be baffled by this move also. That's the reason it looks like a salary dump is because that's what it was supposed to be. ANA was making space for an additional $13 mil in salary. When the Canucks owner nixed the trade at the last minute the Ducks end up looking like idiots.

Wow.

Or maybe it's because MacKinnon has crushed is rookie year and NOBODY has even come close to doing what he has this season.

The ONLY reason why guys like Palat and Lindholm "have to be in that conversation" is because there are three Calder nominees and therefore a couple other names have to tossed around by default.

With the Ducks playing so well this season, I wonder why the GM didn't make a move to add another sniper to team? Kings got much better w/addition of Gaborik, Hawks are loaded, Blues got better w/Miller, Sharks are the sharks.

Even tho the whole team is playing well, but in PO time you need to add offense bc its usually a defensive game. The Ducks rely to much on Perry & Getz.

They got screwed by Vancouver's owner on Kesler. The plan was to add Kesler AND Vanek at the deadline and by the time the Kesler fiasco played out Vanek was already a Hab.
When the Ducks were playing great, they were getting scoring from all four lines.

Another 45-year drought coming right up!
And honestly if the Ducks don't catch the sharks, it's the kings in the first round. And the Ducks know they own the kings.

I hope the Kings play the Ducks. It will be home ice advantage for the Kings the entire series.

Yeah it's like a giant rat infestation whenever the kings play in Anaheim. And it's funny that they have so much pride for LA, yet the guy who sat in front of me at the last game at the Pond (and called me "homie" at least 20 times) had no idea who Bob Miller or Luc Robitaille were. But he had his giant Raider-esque "LA" jersey on so he must be the real deal.

Yeah, kings fans outnumber Ducks fans and that's all that matters. It's not about the team's on the ice, it's just about the number of fans. No wonder you guys don't know sh!t about hockey, you're too busy caring about who's leading the popularity contest.

Wow, I think someone just got butt hurt...no need for the personal attack dude. Honestly, I do not think Fowler will make a difference, it's your coaches playoff record who I am referring to. He had some talented players in Washington and his team always choked in the playoffs. Like last season, same will be true this season.

No matter the outcome tho, a playoff series between our two teams would be awesome for southern california hockey.

Haha it's just that every kings fan points to 3 things: Disney, the Ducks exist because of Gretzky, and number of fans. I just get sick of them never actually wanting to talk about hockey. Most of them have obviously only watched the sport for two years and they have no idea what's going on.

But I'd love to have a conversation about hockey.

Honestly, I worry about that same thing. That Bruce has never won the big one. One thing that makes me feel a little better is that I think Getzlaf and Perry are more complete players/leaders than Ovi. And I'm not positive, I didn't study those Caps teams, but I also don't think they had guys like Beauchemin and Cogliano, or even a guy to rally around like Koivu. And god help everyone else if the Ducks decide to play Sami Vatanen during the playoffs. I know most people don't think so, but that guy is a secret weapon. He affects the entire complexion of the game. Keep an eye out the rest of the season. When Vatanen plays, the Ducks are unbelievable. When he doesn't, they're average at best.

You might be right and the Ducks might be out in the first round again. But they know they can beat LA, and if they play them, my money's on Anaheim.
